Limbaugh also handed Fluke what appears to be a perfect defamation lawsuit by calling her a “slut” and “prostitute.” Limbaugh’s watery apology is a legal move in order to mitigate damages Fluke may have suffered.
In the wake of the spiraling controversy that shocked the nation, 7 advertisers of Limbaugh’s radio show have pulled support. A swift move sure to cause other on-air radio and TV personalities to think twice about joining the misogyny band wagon. But no one should have been surprised by what Limbaugh said on the air.
A look at his Wiki profile above shows he’s made a fortune by manipulating the media and blaming others after shooting off his big mouth. Being an on air dumb ass is what he does best. But what no one is talking about is how Limbaugh, a college drop out whose been married 4 times with zero children must submit to random drug testing because he’s an admitted drug addict. One wonders if Limbaugh’s followers believe he’s the kind of role model they want their children to emulate. And whether Clear Channel has an ethics policy that includes not supporting someone who willfully harms others.
The issues are no longer political when they include demands by Limbaugh to see video of sex acts of a young woman who expressed her educated opinion on a matter of public policy. Limbaugh crossed the bounds of civil decency making some wonder if his perverse sexual appetite shows signs of mental health deviance.
Perhaps if Limbaugh had finished college he’d have learned that attacks on a person’s professional character and allegations that an unmarried person is unchaste or has committed a crime of moral turpitude is defamation, per se. Without a doubt the most important thing to result from the Limbaugh debacle is that we now know exactly who is feeding the hate frenzy to keep Americans from reaching their greatest potential. Middle age white guys who can’t get an erection without a little help from their friends Viagra.
In the bottom line analysis, Limbaugh caused a firestorm that backfired causing many to take a closer look at his life, his followers, his sponsors and his employer. One thing that Pro-choice and opponents, Republicans, Democrats, Conservatives and Liberals can all agree on. Americans have little tolerance for bullies like Limbaugh. Particularly a morally bankrupt man with repeated brushes with the law. Limbaugh attacked Fluke’s character and ethics. The false statements should not be allowed to stand. Limbaugh should be immediately fired. More than likely the next thing we will hear is that Limbaugh is in treatment or drug rehab. Last time I checked, there is no cure for foot-in-mouth disease.
CEO Update: My esteemed colleague Don Soeken pointed out that Clear Channel is owned by Bain Capital. No wonder Romney and the rest of the “let’s keep em down home dumb and pregnant” good old boys aren’t condemning Limbaugh.
