Congress Agrees to Remove Grant of Summary Judgment Powers to MSPB in WPEA

Yesterday, at a Make It Safe Campaign and Coalition (MISC) meeting via conference call, it was announced that the joint efforts of advocacy groups to remove a proposed grant of summary judgment powers to the Merit System Protection Board would no longer be pursued by members of Congress, as previously sought in the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act (WPEA).  The advocacy groups who worked hardest to create this change included Coalition for Change, No Fear Coalition, National Whistleblowers Center, MSPB Watch and Whistlewatch.org.  Our efforts were heard by members of Congress.

We thank those who worked hard to support us and send our deepest gratitude to the federal whistleblowers who signed on to the letter.  However, more provisions of the Bill before the House committee continue to be controversies. Let’s watch to see who steps up to support us on these hurdles to continue to create real change in establishing full employment rights for federal service workers.  These people hold a public trust and work for the American public.
