Having a Moral Compass-A Lesson in Fairness by Frank Bucaro

I was watching my friend and colleague Frank Bucaro on a YouTube video titled “Having a Moral Compass.”  His message is very simple that when making a decision; treat everyone fairly, everyone plays by the same rules, be honest.  The lesson got me thinking about whistleblowers.  Especially government whistleblowers.  Their employment is a public trust.  They take an oath to protect the public interest.  They must follow their moral compass.  Yet when they do, repeatedly they are fired from their jobs on trumped up charges in order to hide the truth and wrongdoing.

Choosing whether to make a disclosure of misconduct in government or industry is following a moral compass.  Fundamental fairness is vital to protect employees from being cast aside when they speak truth to power.  We should all observe the Golden Rule; do unto others and you would have them do unto you.

Maybe someone like Frank can be appointed to be the Ethics Czar of the Federal Government.  He’d get my endorsement.  Thanks Frank!
